Xiamen has the sea; Wuyi Mountain has the peaks. No trip to Fujian is complete without both. Wuyi is a UNESCO dual World Heritage site famous for its Danxia landforms, Nine-Bend River bamboo rafting and rock-wulong tea. Hengtong Holiday (+86 137 9925 4912) explains how to make the journey.
Getting from Xiamen to Wuyi
High-speed trains from Xiamen North to Wuyishan North take about 2.5–3 hours (from RMB 180 second class), with around 20 services a day. Flights take only 50 minutes but total travel time is similar. Self-drivers cover 550 km in around 6 hours — useful for stopping at Quanzhou or Fuzhou.
Top Wuyi Sights
Tianyou Peak
At 408 m, the "first wonder of Wuyi". The 800-step climb rewards you with a sweeping view over the Nine-Bend River winding between red sandstone peaks. A halfway viewpoint works well for moderate fitness levels.
Nine-Bend River Bamboo Raft
The signature Wuyi experience: a 90-minute, 9 km drift on a bamboo raft between sheer cliffs. Pole-men narrate local legends and occasionally break into folk songs. Reservations are essential in peak season — Hengtong holds direct-allocation raft tickets.
Da Hong Pao
Walk through the core rock-tea growing area to see six 300-year-old mother bushes of the legendary Da Hong Pao ("Great Red Robe") tea, and the Water Curtain Cave.
Impression Da Hong Pao
The Zhang Yimou-directed outdoor spectacle uses the actual mountains as a backdrop, with a 360° rotating auditorium. 70 minutes; tickets from RMB 238.
8-Day Fujian Panorama
Our Fujian Panorama 8-Day tour (from RMB 4,980) strings together the best of the province: Xiamen & Gulangyu, Quanzhou old town with Xunpu flower-headdress photos, 3 days at Wuyi Mountain, and a final day at the Nanjing Yunshuiyao tulou before departure from Xiamen.
