Beyond Gulangyu, two experiences are fast becoming must-dos in Xiamen: Wuyuan Bay sailing and mudflat catching. One offers wind-in-the-hair views toward Kinmen; the other lets you roll up your trousers and hunt for crabs and clams. Hengtong Holiday (+86 137 9925 4912) explains both.
Wuyuan Bay Sailing
Wuyuan Bay, in north-east Xiamen, is the city's premier yacht and sailing harbour with clear water and steady winds.

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a waterproof phone pouch. Sailing is not recommended during late pregnancy or for serious heart/hypertension conditions. Trips are rescheduled or fully refunded in bad weather.
Mudflat Catching
"Catching the sea" means foraging on tidal flats as the water recedes. Near Xiamen, Tong'an, Xiang'an and Dadeng Island offer rich, safe mudflats. Depending on the season, you can find small crabs, clams, razor clams, conchs, sea anemones and starfish. We supply buckets, spades, tongs, gloves and boots; your catch can be cooked at a nearby restaurant for about RMB 20 per dish.
Timing depends entirely on the tides — we check tide tables so you arrive about an hour before low tide. The biggest catches come around the new and full moons.
